barn in the hudson valley via dwell
As we start our first design week in our #hillhaus journey, I wanted to share with you some inspiration pictures we’re sending over to our architect partners at Turkel. Flowing along with the original home plan’s inspiration pictures, we’re thinking a palette of various wood tones (with an emphasis on blonde wood with dark accents), greys, blacks, and neutrals — with plenty of white mixed in to lighten things up.
casual contemporary cottage via style at home
I remember trying to furnish my first apartment post college – I almost had a breakdown trying to understand how to mix wood tones. Growing up, our parents seemed to stick to one tone almost religiously, but I love the organic vibe that results from different hues playing together.
from studio mcgee, the SM modern mountain home
I’m drawing particular inspiration from Studio McGee’s most recent project, the #SMModernMountainHome. When Shea started sharing bits from this home on social media as it was coming along, I knew our aesthetics were extremely aligned. The black window frames, leather couch and color mixture here (along with the black kitchen cabinets) are very similar to what I’m envisioning for our place.
I’ve always been a fan of a concrete fireplace, and I’d love to have a similar one (like this one from Nicole Davis) in our new home! More info to come on the actual prefab process — I just wanted to take a second and envision the big picture before getting into the specifics!
